According to news accounts at the time, the Texas-born Preston recounted his 50-plus year career there in 2006, playing with big bands as early as 1945, then working with Lionel Hampton, Charles, Louis Jordan, and Ellington. Gaillard was a jazz hipster, along the lines of Louis Jordan, and recorded a loose, swinging song, "Don Pitts, on the Air" one day in 1950 at KYA's studios in the Fairmont Hotel.
