    Rashied Ali, 76; drummer worked with John Coltrane  Aug 16, 2009
    When Coltrane decided to use two drummers at a performance at the Village Gate in November 1965, he chose Mr. Ali to back up drummer Elvin Jones. Mr. Ali recorded with both men on the 1965 album Meditations, and accompanied Coltrane alone on the duet album Interstellar Space, recorded shortly before Coltrane died of cancer in 1967.     Drum legend Louie Bellson dies at 84  Feb 17, 2009
    In 1998, Bellson, along with Roy Haynes, Elvin Jones and Max Roach, was honored as one of four "Living Legends of Music" when he received the American Drummers Achievement Award from the Zildjian Company. His final recording, "Louie Expedition 2" with trumpeter Clark Terry was released last year. (Hanford Sentinal, CA)
